Server Room Air Conditioning
Precision Cooling | N+1 Redundancy | 24/7 Monitoring | South East
Server room air conditioning failure can cause catastrophic equipment damage and business disruption within hours. AirCon Doctor specify and install precision cooling solutions for server rooms, data centres and IT equipment rooms across Surrey, Sussex and South London — with proper heat load calculations, appropriate redundancy and remote monitoring as standard.
Why Standard Comfort Cooling Fails in Server Rooms
Standard wall-mounted split systems are designed for intermittent operation in rooms occupied by people — not for continuous operation cooling heat-generating IT equipment. Running standard units 24/7 in a server room typically results in compressor failure within 2-3 years. Standard units also do not control humidity — critical for preventing both condensation (too humid) and static discharge (too dry) on sensitive electronics.
Our Server Room Approach
Heat Load Calculation
We size server room cooling based on actual IT equipment heat output — not room dimensions. Total power consumption of all servers, switches, UPS units and other equipment determines the cooling requirement. We add 25-50% headroom for future expansion as standard.
System Specification
For server rooms, we specify: precision cooling units rated for continuous operation (Stulz, Airedale, Emerson and equivalent); high sensible heat ratio to efficiently cool the dry heat of IT equipment; appropriate airflow direction for hot aisle/cold aisle server layouts where applicable; humidity monitoring and control.
N+1 Redundancy
We design all server room cooling with N+1 redundancy as standard for business-critical environments — one additional cooling unit beyond minimum requirement. If a unit fails, the redundant unit continues to protect the equipment while repairs are arranged.
Remote Monitoring and Alerting
Temperature and humidity sensors with remote alerting — email and SMS — provide early warning of cooling problems before they cause equipment damage. We integrate monitoring with the client’s IT management systems where possible.
Typical Server Room Cooling Costs
| Room Size / Heat Load | Typical System Cost |
|---|---|
| Small server room (up to 3kW heat load) | £3,500 – £6,000 |
| Medium server room (3-10kW heat load) | £6,000 – £12,000 |
| Large server room / data centre (10kW+) | POA — site survey required |
