LG is a major global electronics manufacturer whose air conditioning division produces a wide range of residential and commercial systems. They are not as frequently specified in the UK market as Mitsubishi Electric or Daikin, but they offer genuine quality at competitive prices in certain segments. Here is an honest assessment based on our installation and service experience.
LG’s UK Range
LG’s UK residential range includes the Standard Plus (entry/mid-range), the Deluxe (mid-range with advanced features), and the Artcool (premium aesthetically-led range). On the commercial side, LG’s Multi V VRF system competes directly with Mitsubishi City Multi and Daikin VRV. LG also manufactures ducted and cassette systems for commercial applications.
Strengths
Value at mid-range: LG’s Standard Plus and Deluxe ranges offer solid performance at prices that are typically 10-20% below equivalent Mitsubishi and Daikin units. For a kitchen, utility room or secondary bedroom where the very highest noise and efficiency figures are not critical, LG represents good value for money.
Artcool aesthetics: LG’s Artcool series — with its distinctive circular design — offers a genuinely different aesthetic to the standard rectangular format of most air conditioning indoor units. Available in white and mirror finish, it is a reasonable alternative to the Daikin Emura for clients who want a design-led unit.
Smart home integration: LG’s ThinQ app integration is mature and well-regarded. For clients who use LG smart home appliances (washer-dryers, refrigerators, TVs), integrating air conditioning into the same ecosystem is straightforward.
Multi V commercial VRF: LG’s Multi V system is a credible commercial VRF option. We specify it for commercial clients where price is a significant consideration and the application does not require the absolute premium of Mitsubishi City Multi or Daikin VRV.
Weaknesses
Noise levels (Standard Plus): LG’s entry-level Standard Plus units are noticeably louder than equivalent Mitsubishi MSZ-AP and Daikin Sensira units at minimum fan speed. The difference is audible — Standard Plus runs at approximately 26-28dB(A) minimum vs 19-21dB(A) for premium Mitsubishi units. For living rooms and home offices this is generally acceptable; for bedrooms where people sleep light, it can be problematic.
Parts availability: LG parts availability in the UK is good for current models but can be slower than Mitsubishi and Daikin for units over 8 years old. This is a consideration for long-term running cost on commercial installations where downtime is critical.
UK service network: LG does not operate its own dedicated air conditioning service network in the UK to the same extent as Daikin (which operates its own service centres). For complex faults on commercial systems, finding a factory-trained LG engineer can sometimes take longer than for Mitsubishi or Daikin.
When We Recommend LG
We recommend LG Standard Plus for secondary spaces — utility rooms, garages, workshops — where cost matters more than minimum noise levels. We recommend LG Artcool where a distinctive aesthetic is the priority and the premium of Daikin Emura is not justified. We use LG Multi V commercially where the client has a constrained budget for a commercial VRF system.
We do not recommend LG Standard Plus for bedrooms in noise-sensitive environments — Mitsubishi Electric MSZ-AP is the better choice there.
Summary
LG is a legitimate choice at the accessible end of the market and in specific aesthetic applications. It is not our first recommendation for bedrooms or high-use commercial environments, but for secondary spaces and budget-conscious applications it delivers reliable performance at competitive cost.
