Fujitsu Air Conditioning Review — Are They Worth It?

Fujitsu is one of the established Japanese air conditioning manufacturers and a common sight in UK homes and offices. They are not as prominently marketed as Mitsubishi Electric or Daikin in the UK residential market, but they have a loyal following among installers — including us — for specific applications. Here is an honest assessment based on our installation and service experience.

Fujitsu’s UK Range

Fujitsu’s UK residential and light commercial range centres on the ASYG series (wall-mounted split systems) and the AOYG multi-split range. Within the wall-mounted range, the key models are the KG series (entry/mid-range), the LF series (mid-range with DC fan technology), and the ASYG-LLCE series (higher specification with enhanced efficiency and lower noise). The Airstage commercial VRF system is widely specified in commercial buildings.

Strengths

Price: Fujitsu units are generally priced modestly below equivalent Mitsubishi Electric and Daikin units. For a client who wants Japanese brand quality without the premium of the top two brands, Fujitsu represents good value. A Fujitsu ASYG09LLCE installed typically costs £1,200-1,600 — similar to or slightly below a Mitsubishi MSZ-AP equivalent.

Slim indoor unit design: Fujitsu’s ASYG-LLCE and higher series have a notably slim profile indoor unit — 250mm projection from the wall vs 280-300mm for some competitors. In rooms with low ceilings or tight wall spaces this can be a meaningful advantage.

Reliability: Our service call rate on Fujitsu units is comparable to Mitsubishi and Daikin — low. In several years of servicing all major brands across Surrey and Sussex, Fujitsu units have not stood out as more problematic than the premium brands.

Airstage commercial range: Fujitsu’s commercial VRF system is genuinely competitive with Mitsubishi City Multi and Daikin VRV. It is our preferred commercial specification in some applications — particularly where the client wants competitive pricing on a commercial system without compromising on quality.

Weaknesses

Noise — entry level models: The entry-level Fujitsu KG series is audibly louder at minimum speed than equivalent Mitsubishi MSZ-AP and Daikin Sensira units. For bedroom installations where minimum noise is the priority, we do not recommend the KG series.

UK brand awareness: For resale and letting purposes, Mitsubishi Electric and Daikin are more recognisable brand names that tenants and buyers may be more confident in. This is a minor consideration but worth mentioning for landlords and developers.

App connectivity: Fujitsu’s smart home integration is less developed than Mitsubishi and Daikin’s smartphone control offerings. If smart home integration with other devices is important, Mitsubishi and Daikin have more mature app ecosystems.

When We Recommend Fujitsu

We recommend Fujitsu for living rooms and non-bedroom spaces where the client wants reliable Japanese quality at a modest price saving; for commercial applications where the Airstage VRF offers competitive value; and for any installation where the slim indoor unit profile is a specific requirement.

We do not recommend Fujitsu entry-level models for bedrooms where minimum noise is the priority — we use Mitsubishi Electric MSZ-AP or MSZ-LN for those applications.

Summary

Fujitsu is a reliable, well-made Japanese brand that represents good value in the mid-market. It is not the best choice for every application — the noise levels of entry-level models and the less mature smart connectivity are genuine limitations — but for many installations it delivers equivalent real-world performance to more expensive alternatives.
